Singing at Graduation

Students performed songs in French and in English. On the left is Leah leading a super cute rendition of Nas' "I Know I Can". The right shows students singing "You Raise Me Up". Neither of which are great songs, but anything is adorable with five year olds in formal wear.

Bronx Zoo

We loved our visit to the Bronx Zoo. We learned that Asia has the most diverse animal populations, including two of our favorites -- the elephant and the red panda.

Birds!

We have been studying birds in literacy and science, but nothing is as exciting as seeing a real one on the way to recess!

Hats (or Crowns) on Day

Our school participated in "Hats On Day", a fundraiser for children with cancer. Students donated one dollar for the chance to wear a hat to school, showing sympathy for children who lose their hair due to chemotherapy.

Bird Poems

We are learning about figurative language in poems --here Jaylene shows you how the poem compared a roadrunner to a car , "cause it runs speed".

We know lots about birds!

Keverlyn and Jada show off what our class knows about birds.

Learning about Birds

Keverlyn loves birds.

We are making bird's nests to celebrate spring.
In science we are learning about the habitats of birds, and in literacy we are reading and writing poems about our favorite birds.

Jaylene and Jerome explain why they are making cards.

This is Penni's card.

Happy Mother's Day

There's nothing Kindergarteners love more than Mommy, so we were very happy to make cards for Mother's Day.
This is Jaylene's card.

YOGA!

Yoga reduces stress, focuses the mind, and teaches perseverance --you try holding this pose for a minute or two!
It also helps us learn to follow directions, and is a lot of fun!

Science Fair Project

For the school science fair, K-206 students made their own maracas. We explored how sound is created and learned a creative way to recycle our used milk cartons!
We cleaned our milk cartons and decorated them with scraps of paper and stars. Then we tested a variety of objects to see which ones made a good sound inside -- we learned only small hard objects made a fun noice.
Finally we put a popsicle stick handle and stapled them shut.
Yay maracas!

Poetry Month Activies 2

We continued our work on poetry; this time we used our sense of smell, describing the smell of peppercorns.

This poem was written by Elijah, Laila, Jasmine and Skye.

I Smell

I smell sauce pepper sauce sweet and spicy

I smell tasty pizza

I smell gingerbread cookies sweet

I smell peppermint tasty and warm.

We hope you enjoy our work!

Poetry Month Activities

We are writing poems for spring! We are using our five senses, smell, touch, sight, hearing, and taste. Some of us also said that "thinking" was one of our senses, and we are doing a lot of that too!

This poem was written by Penni, Omar, and Leah and is about hearing.

I hear

Birds singing beautifully

The wind moving leaves softly

Cars beeping beautifully

People's shoes walking outside

Buildings with doors and windows

and the voices of small people.
